SPAQuE is 25 years old this year. It has been working hard to build a strong, prosperous Wallonia for a quarter of a century.
SPAQuE took its first baby steps some 25 years ago. Founded by the Walloon Government in March 1991 to deal with the emergency at the Mellery waste dump in Walloon Brabant, SPAQuE has continued to grow and expand over the years – at all times serving the best interests of the environment and Wallonia as a whole. Having rehabilitated numerous waste dumps, SPAQuE added a new string to its bow in 2001 when it began working on polluted brownfield sites.
Today, SPAQuE’s primary focus is on improving environmental quality. It also makes an important contribution to the restructuring of Wallonia’s economy – a fact borne out by the numerous completed and ongoing projects on the hundreds of hectares of land it has rehabilitated.
To commemorate its 25th birthday, SPAQuE will continue doing what it does best – from yesterday’s Wallonia, we are creating tomorrow’s. Because 25th birthdays are a cause for celebration, SPAQuE will be organising a scientific symposium in November 2016 on the following theme : « amplifying polluted brownfield site rehabilitation projects through closer cooperation between the private and public sectors ».
