SPAQuE has recently become involved in the « INSPIRATION » project, financed by the European Research and Innovation programme Horizon 2020. In Belgium, the project is being led by OVAM, the Public Waste Agency for Flanders.
In 2014, SPAQuE expressed interest in the European Research and Innovation programme Horizon 2020, the aim of which is to guarantee the global competitiveness of Europe from 2014 to 2020.
Now SPAQuE has become involved in a project directly financed by Horizon 2020: « INSPIRATION ». This European project, led by OVAM in Belgium, is aimed at developing a « strategic research agenda » for land use and soil management in an environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and economically viable manner, while at the same time meeting societal needs. This « strategic research agenda » is aimed at stimulating the financing of research by both the public and the private sectors, and ensuring that the recommendations will be applied in order to make industry and states within the European Union more green, more competitive and better informed.
For example, « INSPIRATION » will identify which practices in the field of land use and management, will guarantee a healthy food supply, reduce the consumption of raw materials, use natural resources more efficiently, and limit waste in terms of climate change, etc.
During an initial meeting, SPAQuE was able to formulate its ideas in relation to a future « research agenda » for the clean-up of polluted sites. SPAQuE then participated in a workshop where it discussed and exchanged viewpoints on this issue with other Belgian and international public and private bodies.
